There must have been a time when Gov. Sanford stood before a crowd at some event in some town and advocated monogamy. I happen to not remember his taking an official position on this social issue. Apparently some feel he has acted hypocritically and I suppose I would not disagree.
What about those people who advocate abortion including late-term, or partial-birth, but decide to start a family?
What about those people who stand for rights of the accused but support the death penalty?
What about those people who advocate gay marriage but choose to marry the opposite sex?
What about those feminist organizations which support equality for women in the workplace and political forum but do not stand up for women with opposing views?
What about those people who preach of their right to free speech but denigrate and personally attack those with opposing views?
These are social positions of the left. As you can see, the left stands for the convenient alternative and not for the ideal. They get to have it both ways because it’s easy to get knocked down when you stand for something.
I’m a resident of South Carolina and feel Sanford’s tryst is none of my business as I had also felt of President Clinton’s hay rolls. An extra-marital affair does not necessarily impact the official’s ability to do his job. And I do not need my governor to advocate monogamy; I need him to advocate fiscal responsibility which he has, much to the chagrin of the legislature. I want a governor, not a clergyman or a marriage counselor, and we have a great one here in South Carolina.
